My Poker Resolutions for 2010
You know Texas Hold ‘em plays a big role in your life when you create one set of New Years resolutions for your family and personal life and one specifically for poker. I just hold my hands up to being a poker junkie to avoid arguments! With the decade now nearing its end and about to be talked about only as the “early years of online poker” here are my plans and promises for the next twelve months of playing online poker.
Tournament Goals
In 2010 I hope to play more tournaments and get a better grasp of middle of the tournament strategy. Too many times I slow down towards the half way point of the tournament rather than continuing to build my stack and end up pushing with any two to survive. It is something I tend to do only in online poker tournaments and in live poker tournaments I seem to just play poker without worrying about losing chips or busting out. To always play my best game is something I hope to do throughout 2010 and beyond and hopefully that will help me get some big results.
In terms of volume I want to increase that also. There are poker systems in development like the one marketed by David “The Maven” Chicotsky that is specifically tailored for the multi-tabling multi-table tournament player. I have set myself a goal of playing thirty poker tournaments online per month and four live poker tournaments per month. Over time the experience I gain will be invaluable. This will be done playing between two and four tables at once initially.
Cash Game Goals
As a regular writer on cash games I feel it is my responsibility to try and take a business approach to the game and see where it takes me. I want to play a certain amount of hands on four low limit cash game tables using poker tracker and play a systematic approach. Perhaps this will form the basis of a poker book in the future if I can show a healthy win rate.
Something in the region of 50,000 hands per month is the initial target, providing things like my writing and so forth are taken care of. This would mean around 600,000 hands for the year. My potential book would focus on using poker as a way of earning a second income. I believe this is vitally important to anyone in 2010 as job security is diminishing quickly in the ever changing commercial world.
My Poker Bankroll
The recession has forced us all to appreciate that financial responsibility is very important. Most of us know what it is like to have large debts and when you get out of that situation you want to do all you can to avoid a repeat performance. If you play poker which is a form of gambling doing so carefully is vital. Not just for your poker bankroll but for the impact on family who do worry when people begin playing poker.
My goal for 2010 is to set aside some savings specifically for poker. I will use poker as my investment vehicle instead of shares or other saving methods. Using a combination of poker tournaments and cash games I hope to turn this into something that in an ideal world would see me be able to buy a property in a decent area outright without the need for a mortgage. Yes this is a large goal, but large goals can be achieved in poker with hard work and a little bit of luck.
The best thing about Poker is whilst I aim for my goals I will have great fun doing it as I love playing poker. If you follow the standard bankroll management rules there is no reason why 2010 cannot be a great poker year for you too.
