Texas Hold’em strategies by Erik Cutler

Playing poker is easy. Winning at poker is a little bit difficult. By difficult we don’t mean impossible, but rather unlikely to happen if you lean on luck instead of developing the adequate strategies. Adopting the right strategies is very useful not only for improving your gaming, but also for knowing your opponents’ strategies and adapting your gaming tactics to theirs. This is why the first thing you should know about this topic is that even though playing the same game for a longer period of time might seem boring, this is what brings you the highest winning odds, as this is the best way for you to improve your skills and to correct the possible flaws you will discover in your strategy.

Texas Hold’em is a game that requires smart people to play it. It is not apparent at all. Moreover, it needs to be mastered as close to perfection as possible. Probably the most important strategy of all is to know which your exact objective is. If you only play to satisfy your ego and make up for your past losses, than you will only end up losing over and over again. You have to think wisely before placing any bets.

If you’re into No Limit Texas Hold’em, try to make a habit of observing constantly and closely how much money you and the other players have. If you and your opponent both have the same amount of money, than calling is an acceptable decision. But only call if you have good reasons to. And, when facing a bet, don’t call with weak hands.

There are casinos which offer you the chance to play more hands at a time and many people actually fall for this, thinking that their chances of winning are much greater. They are not. In fact, in such cases you can’t concentrate on any of the games and your chances of winning are minimal.

When you have top pairs, it’s good to rise and we suggest you didn’t take the raises very high, but rather stay down, somewhere between 70-100%. Your three face-up cards are viewed by all your opponents, just as you see their three face-up cards. But it’s the two cards in your hand that make differentiate you from them. So, as long as you can view your opponents’ three cards, pay close attention to any possible straights or flushes they might get and also evaluate your own cards properly. If the cards you’re holding are non pair cards and not very good, the best decision you can make is fold because it’s never worth wasting your chips over nothing. Better cards will come and you will be than able to take advantage of this. And, if after the flop it’s your turn to bet, you should feel free to check whether you feel like it.

Texas Hold’em is a serious way of making money. And if you’re a pro, you already know that the higher the stakes are, the better the game, as at the high stake level there are only skilled people left in the game. And if you’re one of them, your chances of winning are pretty high!
